Have a New Pool? Make Sure the Heater is Installed Properly

One of the best ways to cool off during those hot summer months is by jumping in a pool. How nice would it be to be able to do that in your own backyard? It would be pretty great, wouldn’t it? Well, we are here to help make sure that, when you install a new pool and water heater, it is done correctly and safely. With our help, no longer will you have to stress that everything isn’t in top condition.

Gas-fired pool heaters are a great way to keep your pool in shape and extend the swim season. However, when these heaters are installed incorrectly, it can be damaging to the system and can result in having to replace the unit much sooner than you would like. Not only do you need to think about how you go about installing your heater, you also must consider the environment that the unit will be exposed to throughout its lifespan.

Because this is a gas heater, you want to make sure it isn’t in a place where fire is a threat. It should also have plenty of space around it. The non-plumbed and rear sides of your water heater must have at least six inches of clearance, while the water connection side should have at least twelve inches, if not eighteen. The front of the heater needs approximately two feet of clearance in order to meet the requirements of the American National Standards Institute.

It is also important to consider the equipment you are using. Choosing cheap equipment may seem like a great idea in the short-run, but in the long-run, better quality materials will be safer and last longer.

You also need to make sure that you are installing your water heater on a level, noncombustible base. Some options include brick or concrete. Cinder blocks may be used as long as the cells are all pointing the same way and the ends are left open. If you are building a new pad for your heater, there should be a minimum of one-foot clearance on all sides of the heater.

One thing you must avoid is thinking that because this water heater is for a recreational pool, unlike a typical water heater, it doesn’t need to be taken as seriously. This can be a major safety concern if not done correctly. If you aren’t confident in your abilities to install your heater safely and correctly, we would be more than happy to give you some advice or even do it ourselves.
